College of Health, Yamfo, is the second College of Health  in Ghana and was founded on August 11, 2015 for the purpose of providing and promoting health education, learning and research.

 

As a College poised to distinguish itself in the area of research to make an impact at the national and international level, the College has launched a new Strategic 

 

This new strategic plan (2015-2024) is intended to consolidate the gains made from the review of the College's mission and practices and situate these within the context of a very dynamic environment of higher education in Ghana and beyond.

BRIEF BACKGROUND OF CoHY

The idea for the establishment of College of Health, Yamfo (CoHY) was a collaborative effort by the current Paramount Chief of Yamfo traditional area with his subjects, the Hon. District Chief Executive and Member of Parliament for the Tano North District respectively and was fully supported by the Ministry of Health (MoH)-Ghana after several engagements and discussions with relevant stakeholders.

 

Finally College was established and opened by MoH in November, 2015 with the current student population of Two Hundred and Forty-seven (247) for all the four programmes.

 

The College is affiliated to University of Cape Coast (UCC)-Ghana with Accreditation by National Accreditation Board (NAB). Its programmes are regulated by Medical and Dental Council and Allied Health Council of Ghana.

The following are the challenges facing CoHY in our quest to achieving our vision;

  • Skills Laboratory equipment for practical demonstration of students on campus.

  • Hostel Accommodation for students’ population.

  • Internet Connectivity to enhance E-learning and research purposes.

  • Lecture Halls to promote conducive learning environment.

  • Staff Accommodation  

  • Staff Offices to accommodate both teaching and non-teaching staff.

  • Vehicles for official duties.

  THE FUTURE

FIVE YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN

 

The vision as set out in the institutions Five - Year Strategic Document covering the period 2015- 2020 is to be a ‘world- class’ Health University that responds to the health needs of communities. CoHY aspires to become an international resource centre for training and operational research by working towards developing and delivering Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in appropriate subjects in affiliation with other institutions. Creation of career progression pathways and self actualization of alumni and students would always be at the heart of the College and therefore we will continue to develop new training courses in response to national and international health needs using the latest technological developments.
